From the situation at hand I can see two outcomes to the sponge block, with the introduction of it's new feature, either yes, the block for protection of builds will be changed to another block, but personally I dont believe command blocks would be a wise choice since you can still access the interface of the command block, which would annoy players such as me. Or the block will be kept the same with no one being able to use the sponge block, I could see the sponge becoming a block / item such as water or lava buckets, which only trusted+ can use due to how they change their environment around them. Obviously it would be nice for everyone to be able to use these blocks as they are a rare item but it can be used as a griefing tool with water, etc. But it will be up too Dk to decide in the long run
