Mods on the server
« on: January 19, 2013, 08:52:03 am »
Mods (They are active only on singleplayer): Backpack, Campfire, Timber, Inventory Tweaks.
Mods (Multiplayer): Rei's Minimap, Inventory Tweaks (does NOT work), Optifine.
I did NOT know this until just 15 minutes ago, so please don't ban me for doing this.

Our rule is simple, no mods except for Optifine.

If you're afraid to lose your mods, simply backup your modded minecraft.jar and use a fresh .jar for the server.
Then just replace the .jars when you want to use the mods for singleplayer or another server.

Why would you allow optifine but no other mods? the most of the mods, save for 2 do not work, toomanyitems only works for me when I'm an admin/op, and inventory tweaks doesn't work, so why no mods? I'm sorry if I'm not supposed to have mods on but what is the reason for having no mods?

It comes down to a few things:
- We don't always know what mods do.
- The mod could be a 'harmless' mod, but somewhere hidden inside the code could be other features by the developer.
- Optifine is one of few mods that actually allow for better client performance. It only modifies the graphic side to your client, and nothing more.

If you don't like the rule, that's fine, feel free to find a different server.

All I wanted was an explanation as to why you don't allow mods in, and now I get it. I'll take those mods off right now, sorry for the trouble.

If they were to allow another mod in like TMI, then more and more mods would come flooding in. There would be no way to prevent all these mods from doing things that person is not allowed to. Developers have tried to prevent the most popular mods from preforming, like flying, speed hacks, etc. but not every single possibility has been taken care of.
