I honestly think pop, just because I grew up calling it that, but we moved across the country and here most people call it soda. Also, congratulations on Trusted!

Why? I had grown up calling it pop. I grew up in Michigan and moved down to the bottom of the map when I was eight.

Deekay :0 Do you not call them soda?

I pretty much call each soft beverage by its name.... (coke, pepsi, root beer, sprite, etc) but when referring to them as a whole, I say soda.

I call it 'soft drink', or like you said, by the name of the beverage itself.

I call it exactly as it is like impish but I never really say "soda" or "pop". In England thats never really said.
So I can't vote the poll. :(

*pull out AP human geography text book*

The forms of these different dialects are formed usually by relocation diffusion to new regions, by isolation these area form a branch of their language. This is determined by region, but popular culture does have an effect in the whole mess. And with the advancements in communication, it's forming a somewhat bond within different areas.

P.S. That map is somewhat incorrect, it is forgetting "soft drinks" and it's labeling is a bit weird with the percentages.
