Title: About the 1.7.8/9 Update
Post by: DeeKay on April 15, 2014, 07:50:32 am
So in case some of you haven't heard, Mojang are making a new change with usernames. Soon you will have the ability to change your username.
This means any plugin we've had running which stores usernames for information will be broken, and will need to be updated to the new UUID system.

What is a UUID?
A Universally Unique IDentifier is a fairly long series of hexadecimal numbers commonly used in software to uniquely identify something. With Minecraft, Mojang is planning to use UUIDs to identify player accounts, with each Mojang account tied to a UUID. For example: Notch's account now has the UUID "069a79f4-44e9-4726-a5be-fca90e38aaf5".

You can read more about the UUID change in full here. (http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/psa-the-switch-to-uuids-potential-plugin-server-breakage.250915/)

Due to this change, I've chosen to hold off this update for the time being, until the plugins we use are updated for this change.
For now, please stay on 1.7.5 if you wish to play on the server.

Thank you for your patience.

Nothing will be affected on their behalf because they have nothing to do with Bukkit.
If you're running a vanilla server provided by Mojang, all files will be automatically updated for UUID, making it almost seamless that there was any change at all. But, if you're a Bukkit plugin developer and you use anything that involves usernames, this update will be hell for you. This is all just to prepare us for the 1.8 release.

Leave it to Mojang to use the most difficult id system.

We cannot update the server until bukkit does. So when 1.7 came out it took weeks for bukkit to publish it.

Along with that 1.7 had a massive change to its code thats why mods are just now updating to it

When the Minecraft launcher pops up, in the lower left corner, it'll have your profiles. Click the "Edit Profile" button. If you look through that, you should see something that says 'Use Version:". Click it and choose the release you'd like to use :)
